The Annual Philosophy of Logic, Math, and Physics (LMP) Graduate Conference

CALL FOR PAPERS NOW OPEN

Conference date and location: June 14th and June 15th, 2024. Western University, Department of Philosophy.

The graduate students of the philosophy department at Western University (London, Ontario) are excited to announce our 23rd annual Graduate Student Conference, taking place in person on June 14th and June 15th, 2024. The aim of this conference is to promote cooperation and critical engagement amongst graduate students doing research in the philosophies of physics, mathematics, and logic. We are pleased to announce that Philosopher, Dr. Marius Stan (Boston College) will be our keynote speaker.

Call for Papers: Graduate students who have not yet defended their PhD thesis are invited to submit papers on any topic in philosophy of logic, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of physics. This year, we will prioritize papers on the history of the philosophies of logic, mathematics, and physics, with a focus on the developments of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. We hope to generate discussions about the deeply intertwined nature of these disciplines and to foster an awareness of the historical influence exerted by each on the others.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions are accepted via email to uwolmp@gmail.com.
  • Maximum 5000 words, including footnotes and appendices (but not references). If the paper includes tables, figures, or equations, an appropriate number of words should be subtracted from the limit.
  • Papers should be accompanied by an abstract that is no longer than 300 words.
  • Papers are to be prepared for anonymous review (meaning your name should not appear within the paper).

CFP Deadline (extended): April 5th, 2024

Accepted Papers: Each presenter will be allocated an hour-long time slot; presentations should be approximately 40 minutes long, with 20 minutes for a Q&A period.

Bursaries: The LMP recognizes the challenges faced by members of underrepresented groups pursuing a career in philosophy. We will be awarding 5 travel bursaries to graduate speakers at $400 each. Priority for bursaries will be given to graduate students who identify as belonging to an underrepresented group, as well as on a need basis. Those requesting a bursary should include with their submission a separate, short (maximum 1-page) document detailing their need.
