Philosophy of Logic, Math, and Physics (LMP) Graduate Student Conference

About us

The LMP graduate student conference is organized and run by graduate students in the philosophy department at the University of Western Ontario and aims to promote cooperation and critical engagement between graduate students doing research in the philosophies of physics, mathematics, and logic. Our committee is entirely responsible for inviting a keynote, securing conference funds, and conducting the anonymous review of submitted papers. The LMP conference is open to paper submissions of 5,000 words on any topic in philosophy of logic, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of physics from graduate students who have not yet defended their PhD thesis.

Every year, the LMP conference is hosted alongside a philosophy of physics conference organized by members of our faculty here at Western. Many attendees and speakers at the faculty conference also attend our LMP conference. This means that speakers at the LMP will have the opportunity to receive invaluable feedback on their presentations and papers from eminent and established philosophers. Last year, we had the honor of having Drs David Wallace, Jenann Ismael, Maureen Fraser, Chris Smeenk, Robert DiSalle, Wayne Myrvold, Fracesca Vidotto, Carlo Rovelli, Emily Adlam, and Adam Koberninski, among others, attend our conference and participate in our discussions.

The graduate student conference provides the opportunity for both young and emerging scholars to share their work with leading experts in their fields. The conference organizers hope that in light of feedback received on their papers, the graduate students presenting at the LMP conference will go on to publish their papers in top-tier academic journals.
